Middle School Teacher
CurrentDESCRIPTION: As part of a middle school teaching assignment, teach one or more classes in the given subject areas of Earth Science, Life Science and Physical Science, in grades 6 - 8, and assists in other school programs as assigned, such as serving on committees and after school youth programs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaches skills, knowledge, concepts and attitudes in the subject area, utilizing approved courses of studies and other appropriate learning activities; develops instructional plans to organize class activities to provide maximum learning opportunities throughout the time-span of a course; develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small-group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student; evaluates students' academic growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports; communicates with parents and school counselors on the progress of individual students toward meeting the established standards of achievement for a given grade level. Develop policies and procedures to teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement as a result of analyzing problems and trends. Develops innovative and effective solutions to enforce rules for behavior and policies and procedures to maintain order among students. Design and prepare for requirements and material support for course activities involving manipulatives, laboratory investigations, multi-media, and literature. Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors. Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies. Plan and implement activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
