Marcus Bastos is Professor, Artist and Curator. Full Professor in Communication and Arts, he works at the Arts Department of the Pontificial Catholic University of São Paulo since 2003. He was guest researcher at the Humboldt University of Berlin and temporary professor at ECA-USP. He published the books Bridges, windows, masks, virus: links between past and present of the arts and audiovisual (Educ, 2023), Live Audiovisual: trends and concepts (with Patricia Moran, Intermeios, 2020), Thresholds of Networks: writings in contemporary arts and culture (Intermeios, 2014) and Culture of Recycling (Noema, 2007, ebook), besides organizing Experimental Audiovisual. Archaeologies, dialogues, unfoldings (with Natalia Aly, Pontocom, 2018), Besides the Screen (with Gabriel Menotti and Patricia Moran, Intermeios 2016) and Mediations, Technology, Public Space: critical overview of art in mobile media (with Lucas Bambozzi and Rodrigo Minelli, Conrad, 2010). He was curator of exhibitions such as Realities and Simulacra (MAM, 2023), PerformAR Circuitos (Galpão Cru, 2022), Performix (2014), System/Echoes (2013, Victor Civita Square São Paulo), Installation: Video (as part of SESC Art's Show 2010), Mobile Geographies (2009, Telefônica Foundation Buenos Aires and Lima), Claro Curtas (2008), Noise (2008, Itaú Cultural) and What a situation, huh, Debord? (2007, CCBB São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro). He was Curator of the International Festival of Art in Mobile Media between 2007 and 2011, with editions held in Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, Salvador, Belém and Porto Alegre. In 2022, he created the performance Silences, commissioned for the Strange Music Festival 9, held at Praça das Artes / Teatro Municipal. He created performances such as delayscapes and Just Words, that have been presented in venues such as ACUD (Berlin), Maus Hábitos (Porto), Paço das Artes (São Paulo), Cine Metrópolis (Vitória) and Lugar (Porto Alegre), among others. He created, with Dudu Tsuda, performances such as Uncertainties and Absences, that have been presented at the ON/OFF Festival (at Itaú Cultural Institute in São Paulo), Live Cinema Show (at SESC Pompéia in São Paulo), Casa da Lapa (São Paulo), Teatro do Centro da Terra (São Paulo), Serralheria (São Paulo), Continuum Festival (Recife), among others. He created experimental videos such as Counter Streams (comissioned to the VISUALISMO exhibition, at the Rio Museum of Art in Rio de Janeiro) and Free Radicals (widely exhibited in Festivals in Brazil, and also presented at the Pocket Films Festival, at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris).
