Transportation Clerk
Located in the Transportation Section of the Patient Administration Service, I work as a "Travel Clerk” performing duties relative to beneficiary travel and clinic management. These duties include: Determine eligibility for and entitlement to travel at VA expense; Ascertain type of travel medically indicated and authorizes accordingly, using information furnished from veteran, veterans records, etc; Receive requests from admitting physicians, physicians in the area served by the hospital and other delegated persons for movement of beneficiaries by ambulance, air ambulance, and car; Determine trip schedules, mode of transportation to be utilized, and make the necessary arrangements for vehicles, equipment, drivers, attendants, and EMT’s; Authorize hired cars when necessary, determine charges, and obtain name and address of payee and other pertinent data; Interview veterans on a case by case basis determining eligibility; Complete necessary forms and issues cash and check vouchers for payment; Log all trips performed by hired cars, station vehicles, contract and non-contract ambulances for ready reference and control; Maintain separate log covering contract ambulance for certification of monthly invoice received prior to forwarding to Fiscal Service; Prepare beneficiary travel obligations, close out monthly travel obligations, and post daily expense records; Develop yearly travel budget estimates; Schedule and coordinate appointments at University Clinics and Hospital and ensure approval of appointments by Chief of Staff
