The American Institute of Architects Northern Virginia Chapter is a non-profit professional association representing more than 1,100 Northern Virginia architects, interns and allied professionals. The Chapter offers professional development, networking and outreach opportunities as well as tours and lectures to advance the knowledge of architecture and practice among professionals and promote awareness and appreciation of architecture among the public.

LAI comprises an honorary, non-political professional society devoted to the advancement of land economics. LAI is composed of men and women involved in the fields of real estate, real estate development, land use, urban planning, architecture, law, government, academia and all other professions that deal with use, study and economics of land. The George Washington Chapter of LAI (LAIGW) is comprised of professionals in the Washington metropolitan region who have been recognized for their achievements in a land economics field over a period of not less than 10 years and for their demonstrated commitment to community service outside of their professional endeavors.

The Capital Area CRAN was born of the notion that the Washington area’s residential architects could be better served by a committee made up of the three local chapters - AIA Northern Virginia , AIA|DC , AIA Potomac Valley.The Capital Area CRAN (Custom Residential Architects Network) was launched at the beginning of 2013 by a steering committee made up of residential architect-members from all three AIA chapters, and plans were made to create bi-monthly programs that would serve the interests and needs of all of the area’s custom residential architects. By bringing CRAN to our local residential architects, our goal is to address unique issues related to custom residential practice while also serving a body of architects who have lacked the common resources often available to larger firms. As a forum, CRAN provides for the exchange of ideas, concerns, successes and failures, and resources that affect residential practice.

The City of Alexandria, Virginia invited artists and artist teams to submit their qualifications to be considered for a public art project as part of the Lake Cook Stormwater Retrofit Project. The Lake Cook task force represents the stakeholders involved with the art installation portion of the project. The City of Alexandria Public Art Program, based on the recommendation of the task force, has selected artist David Hess to join the Lake Cook design team to integrate public art into the retrofit project.

Founded in 1887, the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC) serves the Nation’s Capital, functioning as both the “local” and “state” component of the AIA for the District of Columbia. The 2015 AIA|DC Board of Directors is made up of 14 elected Officer and Director at Large positions and appointed positions.

Our mission is to promote the awareness and practice of sustainable design and green building with the participation of design firms, organizations, and individuals who support this endeavor.

The Christopher Kelley Leadership Development Program prepares AIA|DC emerging professionals for future leadership roles. This year‐long program consists of nine individual half‐day sessions attended by 16 participants. The discussion included using the BIM program ArchiCAD; learning about the challenges the panelists overcame to reap the benefits of BIM, and discussing the future of BIM.August 2014 - WSA partners with structural engineers Keast & Hood, Co in the 2014 CanstructionDC event at the National Building Museum. WSA & KH build a sculpture entitled "LEGO MY EGGO" and raised $2375.00 for the purchasing of cans to build the sculpture and another $960.00 for the Capital Area Food Bank.September 2013 - Attended the Commonwealth of VA Bureau of Capitol Outlay Management (BCOM) Seminar on "VA Procedures & Policies for the Procurement of Construction and Professional Services" in Richmond, VA.September 2013 - WSA partners with NK Architects in the 2013 CanstructionDC event at the National Building Museum. WSA & NK win Honorable Mention for the can sculpture of the Hirshhorn Museum Bubble entitled "CANSFORMING THE HIRSHHORN". The team raised $1590.00 for the purchasing of cans to build the sculpture and another $685.00 for the Capital Area Food Bank.May 2011 - WSA wins Big Green Commute AwardAugust 2010 - Speaker at AIA Design DC Insight and Innovation conference with with Steven L. Spurlock, FAIA regarding the many benefits of doing pro bono work for architecture firms—from providing services for the public good to demonstrating your firm’s capabilities. Pro bono work builds firm and individual character, teamwork and leadership. Multiple case studies with various design solutions and services were presented.May 2010 - WSA wins Big Green Commute Award

The Alexandria Beautification Commission is a 12-member volunteer board approved by the Alexandria City Council for two-year terms. The Beautification Commission represents citizens' values in city beautification matters and coordinates projects to encourage and achieve beautification.- Made recommendations to the City Council and City Departments concerning landscape aesthetic improvements to the City's right-of-ways and City Property.- Helped to coordinate the Alexandria Beautification Awards which recognize residences, businesses, institutions and public properties that beautify their surroundings through landscaping, maintenance, litter clean-up, and architectural improvements.- Community outreach to schools, business and homeowners in programs such as Arbor Day, and Adopt a Garden, The City of Alexandria's Earth Day Celebration.- Participated in the implementation of the Sanitation Worker's Appreciation Breakfast, held during the City's Annual Spring Clean-up.- Supported activities and policies to increase the City's Tree Canopy.- Launched and organized the spring clean up of Braddock Field Park & Trail in Alexandria, VA. The clean up, now an annual event was initiated in 2012.- Created and maintained the Alexandria Beautification Facebook page.- Drafted monthly meeting minutes for three years.

In December 2011, Ms. Giannunzio was elected as Secretary to the Washington DC Chapter of the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE). Ms. Giannunzio’s term was for one year.- Led the design and construction of the 2012 COTEdc Big Build Booth at the National Building Museum. - Organized & implemented the first COTEdc Green Roof Bike Tour in partnership with the Anacostia Watershed Society.- Coordinated COTEdc's participation in the 2012 EPA Annual National Sustainable Design Expo.- Created and maintained COTEdc's Facebook page.- Compiled and distributed the monthly COTEdc e-newsletters and meeting minutes.- Recruited members and periodic meeting speakers.

- Assisted in the schematic design of numerous projects through model building and design charrettes- Assisted in client and consultant meetings and code research- Produced construction documents in Architectural Desktop (ADT) and helped create CAD and office standards for a newly formed firm- Designed and created the beta version of the Dimension IV website

- Assisted in designing multiple residential projects and additions- Produced Mac Power CAD drawings: as-builts, schematic design, and construction documents- Photographed over 60 past projects completed by the firm and compiled them into a portfolio

- Documented through on-site field work historic iron and concrete bridges within Pennsylvania- Worked with a team of five architects, one engineer, and three historians to prepare measured andinterpretative drawings with written historical reports- Produced AutoCAD bridge drawings consisting of plans, elevations, sections, and axonometrics- All work is within the HABS/HAER Collection at the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.
