Development of mCHP systems based on SOFC technology. Work included: Coordination of tasks and work flow between team members in Switzerland and production team in Italy.Design of product from concept to prototype. Process comprises brainstorming, design, procurement, manufacturing and prototyping of unit including in-depth analysis in CFD/FEA/Process Simulation/Pinch analysis. Implementation of DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) and DFX (Design for Excellence) methodologies throughout product development process. The latter focuses mainly on ‘design for service’, ‘design for manufacture’, ‘design for reliability’ and ‘design for cost’; management of complex trades between quality, cost, durability and reliability.Implementation of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) methodology for production and supply chain (examples of phases: DFMEA, PFMEA, PFD, etc.). Preparation of ‘Risk Assessment’ and Co-development of cold BOP components for a mCHP system.Design, coordination and development of a flexible test bench to test various hot/cold components such as stack-box or hotbox.

In contrast to other fuel cell products, the system is not designed as a back-up (UPS) power system, and thus provide permanent 24/7 base-load power as a clean, low-cost alternative to noisy, polluting and maintenance intensive diesel generators.Development of 5kW fuel cell systems (BoP) for stationary applications.Design and modelling of ammonia cracker for generation of hydrogen. Design, modelling and stress analysis of container for the fuel cell system (explosion test).

Coordination and supervised mechanical activities in Power Plants projects. Work included: Refurbishment and maintenance of chemical treatment facilities; design of sampling systems; primary and secondary heat exchangers, piping, manifolding, etc.. Installation and commissioning of “flame scanners” and “furnace cameras”. Installation, completion and maintenance of pumping system in chlorinator rooms for fresh water capacity.

Management and supervision of team of four engineers, technicians and students. Practical skills in product quality. Example: Design, analysis, optimisation, NC programming and machining to make required components and achieve final assembly. R&D and assembly of fuel cell stacks, including balance of plant, design, and manufacture. Development of an electrolyser in conjunction with solar panel systems for hydrogen generation. CAM: manufacturing of components developed on Pro/E and SolidWorks software. CFD: design, analysis and optimisation of fuel cell components using Pro/E and CFDesign.
