After 3 months of volunteer work, Marek began as a student research assistant to Dr. Marine Theret at the Biomedical Research Centre. Under the umbrella of a student leadership committee within the residence - Harker Hall - at St. George's School, my responsibilities included organizing, preparing, liaising, and implementing various initiatives and events around the school and community, while also dealing with issues that may arise between students and a plethora of other housekeeping duties.In the specialty area of Peer Support, my duty was to integrate with the younger grades to help include the many different cultures and ethnicities and help support students with mental situations that may be detrimental to their studies. At St. George's we came together from various parts of the globe to become a singular unit of acceptance. Through various discussion groups and cultural outings at the boarding house, cultures from opposite poles of the world come together to become life-long friends. Colloquially, the position is known as the Head of "Diversity" as it focuses on bringing out the individuality of each student.Additionally, duties included chairing weekly discussions as well as delegating various responsibilities throughout a Diversity Community composed of 6 students - including the chair - across grades 9-12.The support part of the position includes being a sort of "student counsellor" as well as liaising with professional counselling staff within the school to ensure that students are well cared for.
