I am former owner of Studio 308 in DeLand, Florida where I taught the art of colored pencil, graphic pencil, pen & ink and watercolor pencil to hundreds of enthusiastic and talented students for more than eleven years. Friendships forged during those years are still among my treasured friends and accomplices. Throughout a lifetime of dabbling in the arts I earned numerous awards, including several "best of show," both here in Florida and in my native New Hampshire. As a novice writer I wrote for several New England magazines and periodicals, and in 1992 won the Mark Twain Award for a children's short story and three years ago I self-published "A Sitting Ovation" ~ a collection of short stories, poems, essays, humor, children's stories, and laced throughout with New England reminisces, gleaned from a lifetime of writings. Prior to my move to DeLand I was employed for more than twenty-five-years in the Eldercare industry, serving as Executive Director for an assisted living facility, Administrator of a senior center and served on the Board of Directors of another. Sandwiched in between those years were several retail operations ~ a country-style gift shop in a brand-new mall in New Hampshire ~ an ice cream smorgasbord in the foothills of New Hampshire's White Mountains (the catalyst for the book mentioned below) ~ and several seasonal gift shops in both New Hampshire and Maine. Now . . . in 'semi' retirement (I still teach a few students in my home), I've completed and illustrated a children's book "Hannah's Incredible Cow", and just had "My Life Above the Clouds ~ In The Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau" published - - - a book I co-authored with son Benjamin Scribner. It currently enjoys a 5-star rating on Amazon.
