As a rotating intern with the Charleston RiverDogs, I worked in multiple departments within the company. These departments included: Ticket Sales, Community Relations, Sales, and Promotions. I was required to learn the ticketing system for the RiverDogs, Glitner, in order to sell tickets on game days, season tickets, group tickets, or tickets purchased in advance. While working in the Community Relations department, I was required to answer any questions guests of the Joseph P. Riley, Jr Park may have, work multiple youth camps for kids in the community, make phone calls and visit different businesses in the community to collect donations for the RiverDogs charity event, Kindness Beats Blindness, and create a themed night with a fellow intern that would unite different groups within the community. While working in the Sales department, I was required to make numerous sales calls to different groups in the area, getting them to purchase group tickets for a Charleston RiverDogs game or any of the many ticket deals we offered throughout the season. Finally, while working in the Promotions department, I was required to handle the on-field activities that occured during the games and everything that had to be done in preparation for these activities before the game. While working for the RiverDogs I was also required to count money, pick up money from the bank, and handle money at the front desk during a few of the games. This internship was extremely fast-paced and required long hours, which gave me a good glance into what working in the sports industry would be like.
