My title is Senior Negotiator, Contracts Management Group and I'm the Lead Negotiator for Heavy Commercial and Union Branches. But I'm really a problem solver. I work to find creative solutions for resolving contract and insurance issues with builder customers while limiting risk to TopBuild companies. In 2014, I transferred from the Masco Contract Review Center to the Masco Contractor Services (now TopBuild Corp.) Florida home office to establish the Contracts Management Group.

Prior to joining the Contracts Management Group at TopBuild, I was a member of the management team of the Masco Contract Review Center at Masco Cabinetry. My responsibilities included negotiating construction contracts and handling insurance matters for Masco companies, collecting and reporting data regarding contractual risk transfer provisions to the Director of Risk Management, and training Contract Review Center staff on risk transfer provisions and applicable state and federal laws.

I worked in the Litigation Group at the Firm's Kalamazoo office, reviewing hard-copy and electronic document files and summarizing depositions. Cases we handled included a wrongful death claim against a pharmaceutical company, a breach of contract matter involving a major financial institution and an employment discrimination action against a Big-3 auto maker. I performed this work effectively using careful, thoughtful and deliberate analysis. In addition to increasing my subject-matter expertise, I learned about the role of document production in litigation and what should and should not be written in an email.

I came on board to negotiate real estate claim settlements when Kmart emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This involved reviewing retail lease agreements and subleases for Kmart stores in the US and Puerto Rico, negotiating claim settlements and drafting and negotiating lease modifications. Results: significant cost savings for the Company plus much-improved relationships between the Company and its landlords and subtenants. I worked closely with the Company's Property Managers, Tax Department and outside counsel. It was a very dynamic environment in which I learned to work effectively while supervisors, policies and procedures were continuously changing.
