About Margarita Plotnikova

Margarita started her international career with the IFRC, promoting it through the free media emerging after perestroika in Russia (1995-2001). Her experience in media relations in Russia and Tajikistan (2001-2002), was used for promotion of communications among central European countries in 2002-2004. That job required strong research and conceptual skills, strategic thinking, analysis and integration of diverse information from varied sources into conclusions and recommendations for the regional team and for her counterparts in 15 central European countries many of which were on the threshold of entering the EU. In that position she used a full range of communications approaches and tools essential to planning, executing, and monitoring strategies, including campaign management, media operations, social marketing, opinion research, message targeting. In 2004-2007 she coordinated the psycho-social support programme after the school crisis in Beslan, N Ossetia. Her personnel management skills, planning and monitoring were later projected to a wider region of Europe and Central Asia where she undertook the role of communications manager at the IFRC office for Europe zone (2008-2010). During that missions she was involved in the preparation of major communications products, electronic newsletter, web stories, publications, including media kits for programmes and events.Working with the team of information officers in 53 countries she ensured support in formulating communications plans, developing communications materials and managing events and high level visits. Since 2010 she has been responsible for project management and communications on high profile Road Safety initiatives. She promotes a culture of knowledge sharing, mutual support, competency and continual improvement, proactively works with government structures to drive successful fundraising initiatives and employs international best practices to identify and secure local solutions.
