The project ran for two field seasons, until the site of Argyle 2 was no longer available for archaeological investigation. A total of 17 volunteers came from Canada, the United States and Greece, helping to recover prehistoric burials dating up to 2,000 years ago; some of these burials involved the recovery of grave goods (complete pots, stone beads, ceramic sherds) that have helped rewrite the prehistory of St. Vincent. Margarita and her team believe in the value of knowledge, and made annual presentations to the National Trust in Kingstown, St. Vincent, as well as at the annual conference of the Chacmool Archaeological Association in Calgary. Margarita has also made presentations at the Archaeological Society of Alberta Lethbridge Chapter and at the University of Calgary Noon Hour Lecture Series. She was invited to speak at the annual meeting of the Canadian Association for Physical Anthropology in November 2012, during a symposium on Canadian Bioarchaeology in the Caribbean, and at the annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology in April 2013, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her efficiency and high level of productivity allowed her to become a Senior Project Archaeologist, managing large-scale mitigations of significant multi-component archaeology sites; this included overseeing crews for both field excavation and laboratory cataloguing and analysis, compiling all data into a final report for approval by the Historic Resources Management Branch of Alberta Culture. She has been involved in and managed projects requiring pedestrian reconnaissance and systematic or judgmental shovel testing, recording numerous artifact scatters, stone circle sites and buried campsites, mainly of a prehistoric nature. The strategic planning for the protection or mitigation of historic resources has involved liaison with government representatives, as well as clients, surveyors and landowners, often leading to mitigative excavations of stone circle sites and campsites with multiple components. Data analysis and compilation of these sites also includes extensive research into historic properties, as well as the prehistoric populations of First Nations in Alberta. Show less
