I aim to promote the rights of consumers as they seek to access services in health, aged care and disability sectors. My knowledge, skills and passion have been developed by my experience in clinical, management and advocacy roles in health and aged care services, across community and organisational settings and public and private sectors. In the 1999, I developed and implemented a systems approach to patient advocacy in a large Australian private hospital. This program was seen as an industry leader because it showed how private hospitals could respond to changing policy and new health consumer expectations. The patient advocacy program used a systems approach to supporting and promoting health consumer perspectives and rights. It involved new communication mechanisms and negotiated policy and funding solutions at multiple levels: hospital, industry and government. Since 2018, I have been involved in policy and research including an exciting seque into the rapidly changing Australian disability sector.
