Board Member & Chair Union Of The Fleur De Lys
I served on the Board of Trinity College from 1997 to 2006 looking after the College's growth as to student welfare and amenity and infradtructure improvement. I became a member of the committee of the Union of the Fleur de Lys upon its reestablishment in 2007 after some years in hiatus. . The role of the committee is to auspice events to encourage alumni to be and remain associated with Trinity College. Several events are held each year including the Drinks Under the Oak. Every 5 years a gala dinner is held the most recent being in 2012 for the 140th anniversary of the college's founding. I was chairman of the Union Fleur de Lys from 2012to 2015 initiating major change by having the Union report directly to the Warden of the College who attends meetings, establishing alumni pages in the quarterly magazine Trinity Today and ensuring that certain College events and activities were cobranded with the Union and the College.
Board Member
In 2007 I became the first non university-employed person to be voted on to the board of Australian University Sport. I brought with me various skills and experiences from my days as an elite athlete, a university student, lawyer and sports administrator to round out the capacity of AUS to deliver sport programmes and experiences to university students. The Healthy Body Healthy Mind approach were the guiding principles by which the organisation operated. My term on the board was for a period of 2 years until 2009.Subsequent to my time on the board I became chairman of the World University Games fundraising committee and thereafter a member of the Finance, Audit & Risk Management committee the latter having oversight of finance, organisation and event risks.
Board Member
I initially served on the board of Rowing Victoria for some years in the 1990s. I made a return for some 18 months concluding in December 2014. I sought to improve the governance and accountability structures and ensure that the board was focussed in its deliberations on strategic matters as opposed to operational matters and always had regard to the future of the sport in the highly competitive world of sport when everyone has so many more choices about how they spend their time and their money.
Chair Conference Programme Advisory Committee
As chair for the conference programme committee for this women and sport conference, the first independently organised such conference for 20 years, my role was to provide the organisers with a workable programme of interest to men and women in sport and in the business of sport. I devised the themes for the conference - the 5Ms being Media, Marketing, Men, Money and Members - and drafted the programme covering these themes with catchy session titles which were adopted by the advisory committee and organisers.
Director Gymnastics Australia
i started my role as a director with Gymnastics Australia and ended it some 10 years later being not much more aware of the intricacies of the sport than when i started. There were many board members for whom gymnastics ran in their blood and their experience and knowledge was invaluable in formulating the direction for the sport. My focus was on the good governance of the organisation including constitution reviews, board paper and policy document structure and content, strategic thinking and best practice in all things.
Director
Director Of Board & Member Of Audit Committee
The NZ government sought to reorganise the 2 bodies which ran NZ sport into one single organisation. An approach was made to the Australian Minister for Sport for suggested names of people who had sport experience and could be suitable to be appointed to the revamped NZ entity. I was selected and contributed my experience as lawyer, athlete and member of the Australian Sports Commission over monthly meetings for two very interesting years. No other Australian has been appointed to NZ Sport since.
Director
Masters Commission Member
Director/Trustee
The Flinders Park (now Melbourne Park) Trust and Olympic Park Trusts were run as separate entities until combined as the Melbourne & Olympic Parks Trust in 1998. Each of the entities was responsible for the management of their respective facilities and grounds. The tennis centre and environs was the domain of the former and the old Olympic Park ground and the former Olympic swimming pool the domain of the latter.
Director
A member of the board charged with seeking the IOC nomination of Melbourne as the host city for the 1996 Olympic Games which were ultimately allocated to Atlanta.
