Collaborative Divorce Mediator. What does that mean, I hear you ask.It means that sensible, collaboratively-minded lawyers, divorce coaches, psychologists and financial planners are vital in preparation for mediation, and so I work closely with them. Preparation from all angles helps separating couples reach sustainable and informed settlements. My interest is in helping people in dispute get to the other side of their crisis as positively as possible, and definitely without being destroyed by it. I run three businesses. *Smart Mediation Melbourne, which is collaborative divorce mediation. I’m different from most mediators, because I integrate preparation with a range of advisors before mediation begins. I also give my clients access to Adieu, an AI tool for financial disclosure that takes away the cost and tedium of disclosure and delivers accuracy. * I am a founding Director of MELCA, which is an interdisciplinary mediation and collaborative centre, working Australia wide. MELCA is a thought leader in all things divorce and interdisciplinary practice. We have developed a clear 5step system for separating couples, overseen by a case manager.Our documentary ‘Family is Family’ sums up my approach to separation. In the documentary, a number of wise souls speak about the many benefits of an interdisciplinary approach to divorce. We wrote, "Breaking Up Without Breaking Down", which talks about how a constructive approach to divorce pays dividends for everyone in a family. The central message of the book is about choosing your advisors wisely from the get-go, to avoid deepening conflict. It’s now in its 4th reprinting. * In 2022 I launched Support for Lawyers, an online service offering wellbeing coaching to individuals and more importantly to whole law firms. My hope is that this contributes significantly to normalising conversations about good mental health in the legal profession. The counsellors at SFL have experience and close alignments with lawyers. They ‘get’ the legal industry.
