Mari Newman graduated from UNT with honors Fall 2023. They are currently pursuing graduate school for ecocriticism to apply their interdisciplinary research involving gender and sexuality studies, CRT, and critical disability studies to ecologies in Victorian literature. Their article “Critical Analysis 2: Liberal McCarthyism” is available open access by the University of Oklahoma in “Writers: Craft and Context,” vol. 4, no. 1, pp. 79-81. https://journals.shareok.org/writersccjournal/issue/view/6/14Their current academic project is working as a research assistant for Dr. Roya Haghiri-Vijeh (York University) and PhD student Kat Newman-Seymour (Western University) on their article “JBI Scoping Review of GIaNT youth.” This article examines gender-independent/queer, intersex, non-binary, and transgender (GIaNT) youth and how they utilize online spaces such as apps, games, social media, and online educational resources (OERs) to explore topics such as puberty health, peer support, and identity development. They have gained authorship on the upcoming through completing full-text reviews, data extractions, data coding, and creating visualizations in addition to writing and editing the article.
