Talk to me about Tech and Digital, Human-Centred Design, User Experience Design, Product Design, Digital Strategy and transformation, Product and design Leadership, and Future-Ready Operating Models.After nearly 30 years in the tech industry working across IT, Product, and Consulting, I've had a front-row seat to the evolution of the industry — from the era of black and green screens to the human-like tech we use today.The last ten years have been particularly impactful on me. I observed significant advancements in technology architecture and interfaces, enabling digital tools to become more accessible and intuitive. I was fascinated by the shift from technology as a tool for small numbers of highly specialised users to technology in the hands of everyone. This era of technology sparked my interest in Human-Centred Design (HCD) stirring me to the point of signing up to courses in Interaction Design (IxD) and Experience Design (UX). This personal journey not only changed my perspective as a technologist but also refined my ambitions, making me more empathetic and understanding of the end users.With a renewed motivation to create human-centred solutions, I embarked on a personal project to create a tech product—Epizo, a bushfire preparedness app that would save lives. This was my first taste of entrepreneurial failure (I am happy to elaborate over a coffee). But despite a failed product launch, I learnt some incredibly valuable lessons about the importance of Product and Design Thinking. With a fresh realisation that you cannot change manage people into product adoption, I came to the belief that subpar technology only exists due to a lack of design skills and capabilities.This led to the founding of Aplo, a consultancy that supports large organisations that want to become experts at delivering consumer-grade tech.I was once asked what great technology means to me. To me, technology is a leveller. It creates opportunities and access, breaks down barriers, and eliminates disparities. It empowers individuals to succeed and contribute meaningfully to business, society, and the world at large. And so as technologists, we have both enormous privilege and obligation to design great tech. I firmly believe that the potential of technology is limitless, and I am excited to be part of this journey. #LFG!
