A wonderful learning experience straight out of college. Herd expanded multiple times during the 7 years. High quality dairy cattle and management expectations. Herd production in 2009 #30,000+ herd. Excellent animal health contributed to low DIM of the herd and in return shipping consistently 100+lbs of milk per cow per day from the dairy facility (2009). 80,000 herd SCC. Less then 1% death loss of calves on the farm. I had a small herd of 18 cows within this herd won and award for the lowest SCC in the state of Wisconsin averaging 61,000 for the year (2006). When all the areas of the farm come together and there is complete acceptance from all individuals in a group things like this are possible. When you can come to work and be able to focus on strategies' in herd improvement, that you never thought you could get to a point of execution, it is a wonderful situation to find yourself in. Every employment position on a dairy should have a purpose and an expectation. If you allow everyone to contribute to the whole and acknowledge that importance great things happen.
