Thesis: The Identification of Drosophila JAK/STAT Pathway Target Genes. Responsibilities: Completion of the aforementioned research, which includes the identification and characterization of a target gene found to have an important role in stem cell maintenance. Other responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance of the lab and imagining facilities, training new users of the imaging facilities, teaching new genetic techniques to fellow students and post-docs, participation in numerous seminar series including, New York Fly Eye Club, NYUSOM Signaling Meeting, NYUSOM Fly Club Meeting, NYUSOM Department of Pharmacology Works-In-Progress, all of which require annual or semi-annual presentations.

Projects: 1) The study of allelic variation in eleven genes associated with blood HDL and LDL concentration in a patient population with a high risk of cardiovascular disorders. 2) The role of Fmrp (gene product absent in Fragile X Syndrome) in the establishment of the startle response during auditory development. 3) The role of Sonic Hedgehog in cerebellar development. Responsibilities: Completed the aforementioned research projects as well as managed lab and animal facilities. Attended weekly meetings with the Genome Center labs during which I presented updates on the progress of each project.

Thesis: The Development of a Fast Detection Method of Lysteria Monocytogenes in Food. Responsibilities: Completed work on the aforementioned project which culminated in the development of detection method for Lysteria food. Other responsibilities included a complete analysis of factors relevant to the development of a successful detection method, including population size, budget available to invest in the test, identification of foods capable of harboring Lysteria, etc.
