- Generated four NASA Common Research Model (CRM) wingalone unstructured mesh families using Pointwise (20 meshes in total), and performed a mesh convergence study using ANSYS Fluent.- Ran the ANSYS Fluent adjoint solver to optimize the aerodynamic shape of the CRM wingalone model to minimize drag, and used OVERFLOW to verify the Fluent results.- Developed python scripts to automate CFD data post-processing (sectional pressures & geometry, spanload, and surface contours) in Tecplot using the PyTecplot API.- Performed TRANAIR multi-point design optimization simulations for a future aircraft concept.

- Designed a water tunnel experiment (test article, instrumentation, and setup) to characterize the lock-in of vortex shedding from a circular cylinder undergoing controlled motions.- Developed MATLAB scripts for signal processing, uncertainty analysis, modal analysis (POD & DMD), unsupervised machine learning (k-means clustering), and automated graph and video generation.- Operated a free surface water tunnel and collected time-synchronized quantitative and qualitative 2D flow field data (PIV & PLIF) and load-cell measurements of a cylinder undergoing 1DoF and 2DoF controlled motions.- Developed Tecplot macros and ran them in batch mode through MATLAB to automate CFD volume slicing, slice data extraction to calculate aerodynamic parameters, and plot generation in Tecplot.

MAE 305 - Mechanical Engineering Lab IMAE 405 - Controls Lab– Prepared and taught weekly laboratory experiments to 60 mechanical and aerospace undergraduate students (juniors and seniors) per semester.– Processed experimental data for MAE 305 and developed a solutions manual for upcoming teaching assistants.– Wrote an experimental setup instructions manual for MAE 305.- Designed, built, and tuned PID controller circuits to actuate a spring-mass system.– Developed a LabVIEW VI that converted the voltage signals from a spring-mass-system into displacement and it also displayed the system real-time response when performing PID gain tuning.– Developed ladder logic programs to operate a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to actuate a pneumatic system.– Measured the temperature change of a heat source using thermistors and thermocouples.

Group director: Dr. Ashok Gopalarathnam – Operated a subsonic wind tunnel and performed experiments to detect airfoil flow separation using a novel surface mounted flow separation sensor.– Developed LabVIEW virtual instruments (VIs) to obtain pressure data from three Scanivalve multi-point electronic pressure-scanning (ESP) modules and control the wing model rotation by sending commands to a Velmex stepping motor software (COSMOS).– Developed MATLAB scripts to do post-processing, data analysis, and uncertainty calculations.

- Developed an automated EDL capsule mesh generator in Python that uses Pointwise as the meshing software. This tool is intended to be used for mission design studies and thermal protection system (TPS) sizing.

– Attended and followed procedures for OEMs car development and submission wind tunnel tests at AeroDyn.– Developed a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to visually represent live data during wind tunnel tests to compare the OEMs’ race car aerodynamic performance to the NASCAR target body. The spreadsheet also calculates deltas for different runs.– Processed CFD multicar simulation results using ParaView to observe drag behavior at different car lengths.– Effectively presented CFD data analysis results to hiring manager using PowerPoint presentations.– Designed two passive blowing configurations to improve drafting performance and minimize the lead car acceleration caused due to the trail car being in proximity.– Designed a portable Scanivalve pressure measurement system contained in a pelican case and requested quotes from different manufacturers for all the required components.

– Ran daily, weekly, and monthly scrap reports using SAP and Minitab as a statistical tool.– Performed, edited, and reported quality and safety audits to the plant manager, and the quality and manufacturing engineering groups.– Kept up record and calibration due dates of the different instruments in the motor and gear plants.– Found and reported issues with the routings in the motor plant and the gear plant.– Populated gear and shaft press fixture data for a particular lean cell in order to determine the total amount of fixtures needed, and to organize them in drawers by size to ease use of them. – Developed a bar code scan system to speed up the scrap input process used by the operators in order to collect more and detailed scrap data.– Helped the training department by writing step by step work procedures for ten lean cells.– Detected and presented issues in the ISO14001 standard environmental management system, which led to reprinting and replacing all the MSDS labels in both plants.
