About Maria C. Goodson

I believe that building strong systems and processes help foster deep, productive professional relationships. 15+ years of customer service experience and 10 years of volunteer management and recruitment have taught me the power of not only people, but the processes that keep folks showing up better each day. Themes I’ve noticed are passionate teams of people who don’t have enough hours in the day to do their work. Companies can’t increase capacity by simply having bigger teams or new tools without processes to support growth. I believe that systems and processes save time that can be spent getting to know teams, strategizing, and getting to work. While managing volunteers in a museum, recruiting volunteers for multiple non-profits, and organizing a monthly reading series featuring local writers in Baltimore, the thing that has brought me the most joy is making work easier. I love organizing information and creating SOPs, making room for innovation, creativity, and new relationships. Some of my proudest accomplishments include: - collaboratively creating a family-friendly walking tour of Oxford, UK, featuring the children’s book authors whose stories the city is known for, - raising $10,000+ as a volunteer for Moveable Feast by participating in their annual fundraiser, Ride for the Feast,- working as a volunteer Team Leader with Strong Schools Maryland, to pass landmark education legislation- project managing four writing retreats in WV in collaboration with writers and artists from Baltimore City, and welcoming guests from all across the East Coast, - rebuilding the volunteer enrollment onboarding system for a local non-profit in partnership with Salesforce professionals, - and creating volunteer recruitment trainings for AmeriCorps members at Reading Partners, Baltimore, that were implemented across 10 states and 14 cities. I care deeply about social justice, art, and writing. In my personal life I enjoy writing poetry, micro fiction, and short essays about my t-shirt collection. I published a poetry chapbook akinoga press in 2022. Personally and professionally I value creativity, honesty, and fun.
