I have developed a passion for communication in my journey at George Mason, however, there were other factors that facilitated my passion. Growing up with an immigrant mother from Ukraine, Russian was my first language. I often had to be her voice when she could not communicate with others and that also sparked my love for learning about communication and languages.One of my favorite memories in high school was when my AP Seminar teacher told me, "Maria, I am so proud of how far you have come and how much more confident you have grown in your voice!" I was always very shy and introverted growing up and his comment has stuck with me and motivated me ever since. As someone who struggled with public speaking and confidence, I would have never imagined myself now, pursuing a Communication degree with a concentration in Public Relations. However, I would not change a thing.
