As far as I can remember, health care was where I wanted to be. I began with the information desk, then Medical Records; concurrently obtained a medical record technician degree, and a transcription certificate, and promoted to transcription. Using my medical knowledge, I learned from the physician's thought processes and deductive reasoning. Inaudible dictations caused me to think outside the box to determine deciphered words. Voice recognition changed the transcription process and responsibilities, along with my love for the position. I was promoted to oncology data specialist, then oncology outcomes specialist in the Network Cancer Registry. We focus on patients' cancer status annually, documenting new primaries, recurrences, treatments, outcomes, and causes of death. I located a patient, utilizing the health information exchange, who had not been seen at our institution for several years. After living out of state, in a nursing home, and being hospitalized; he ultimately passed away. Coinciding with my cancer registry position, I pursued my BS in Health Informatics with a background in Health Information Management. I am prepared to manage billing and reimbursement with commercial and government insurance and comprehend current data governance, and security regulations. With SSPS, Python with R, and SQL, I can manage data, create tables and code, prepare statistics, and present trends, comparatives, and predictions, e.g. data in US News and World Report, creating dashboards and visualizations using Tableau and Qlik, and identifying Alaskan temperatures over a 50-year range with Jupiter Notebook.In working with healthcare data for over 20 years, the paper chart has transitioned into the electronic medical record. Quality data is the foundation on which medical issues, treatments, and research depend to bring healthcare services to the medical and technical forefront. The inquisitive nature I possess is twofold. I embrace opportunities, determine where the issue stems from, learn what exists, and use data to support decisions. Everything needs to make sense. Regarding connections and relationships, these are easily formed, I can instruct, have empathy, and validate collaborating ideas on the team.
