As a graphic designer I'm responsible for print and digital layouts ranging from oversized signs and banners to website rotators and eblasts, as well as direct mail. Some of my duties also include copy/layout changes and pre-flighting for print. I work in tandem with account managers and executives to meet clients' needs. At any given time, I'm actively balancing 20+ different projects.

My duties included laying out an average of 10 pages per night while working with satellite editors from six different publications nationwide. I also led the design of the Sunday edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle. Some of my duties included copy editing, creating chars and graphics as well as photo editing. One of my Sunday Front Pages was awarded an APME Newspaper Contest Award for 3rd Place in Best Full Page Design.

I was the first student editor appointed who was working toward a degree in art instead of journalism. During my tenure as editor, I led the staff comprised of 50 reporters, photographers and designers to an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker award — the highest award for college journalists. Throughout that same year I redesigned the student-run newspaper from a traditional broadsheet format to the current commuter-style tabloid and created templates, libraries and a design guide.

I created and proposed this new position to establish lines of communication throughout the various areas of a newsroom. Overseeing a team mixed of designers and photographers, I help guide the production of lively, engaging, content-driven pages. I strive for advance planning and execution of each issue with a bold, dynamic and creative approach.The role of Visual Director includes, but is not limited to:-Posses a clear sense of mission-Push for perfection and excellence in order to always set the bar higher-Manage standards by overseeing/creating templates and layout formats for pages- Present the news clearly and on time, ensuring all product deadlines and quality standards are met-Work with the advertising department and professional staff to plan special editions-Addresses issues with desk editors, photographers, and designers such as (but not limited to) errors, inaccuracies, headline writing, play of stories, photo/graphic presentation, deadline performance-Coordinate all facets of presentation and design of the newspaper-Delegate tasks and assign pages to designers-Set and follow up with Art deadlines in order to get content to designers in a timely fashion-Ensure pages are sent to press by deadline each production day

-Responsible for rebranding Central Michigan Life, through online and in print. Responsible for entire print redesign, various side projects.Responsible for overal design of newspaper, page one, inside pages. Oversees a staff of two page designers.Creating and exporting pages into PDFs to be sent off to press.Publishing newspaper through web for virtual edition.Leading the design of the weekly entertainment section.
