I am a curator & researcher whose work explores the intersections between art, technology and society.Interested in working with various exhibition formats outside the gallery, I founded the online curatorial platform or-bits.com (2009-2015) and curated projects online, on a river canal, on mobile phones, on the radio and in print, such as ‘#exstrange’ (2017) on eBay; ‘Disturbing the Balance’ (2022) on an app; ‘Silicon Plateau’ (2015-) in print; ‘The C(h)roma Show’ (2014) in an electronics shop in Bangalore, India. I have researched the field of curating on the web and digital curation since my PhD (2015), contributing to publications, conferences, and graduate and post-graduate courses and programmes. Recently, I published the archive project ‘curating.online’ (2021-) in collaboration with the Exhibition Research Lab at Liverpool John Moores University, UK, and sponsored by the Italian Council, and ‘The Broken Timeline’ (2022). I have substantial experience as an artistic director, project manager and curator for arts and cultural programmes and exhibitions in the public, private and not for profit sector internationally; in research, development and management of partnerships and sponsors; in working with diverse teams; and in delivering arts and cultural projects in formal and informal contexts, and educational environments. I collaborated a range of institutions, from start-ups and research centres, to local governments, art galleries and artist-run spaces.Currently, I work as independent curatorial consultant & researcher, also under the moniker ://ftp - file transfer protocols.

Art Curator And ResearcherFreelance Jan 2009 - PresentWorldwideSee https://marialaura-ghidini.hotglue.me/° I like to think of exhibitions as ways of telling stories that exist across spaces and amongst people — I have curated them online, in gallery spaces, on a river canal, on mobile phones, on the radio and in print, and I have worked with artists, writers, designers, musicians and anthropologists. I am keen on creating platforms for discussion and sharing; an interest that led to the creation of the curatorial platform or-bits.com (2009-2015), the projects #exstrange (2017) and UnProductive Solutions (2023) with artist Rebekah Modrak, and the publishing series Silicon Plateau (2015-) with artist Tara Kelton. For a list of curated projects > https://marialaura-ghidini.hotglue.me/exhibit ° I have researched the field of curating on the web, and its relationship with the development of internet technology, by contributing to edited books and journals and publishing online archives. Such as the project curating.online (online, 2021-) with the support of the Italian Council - 9th Edition (IT) and the Exhibition Research Lab at Liverpool John Moores University (UK), and the archive The Broken Timeline (Valiz, 2022) conceived with Annet Dekker and Gaia Tedone. For a list of writings > https://marialaura-ghidini.hotglue.me/wordsFor a list of talks > https://marialaura-ghidini.hotglue.me/talks

Founder And DirectorOr-Bits.Com Sep 2009 - May 2015WebNot-for-profit art gallery.Between 2009 and 2015, or-bits.com commissioned over 100 artworks and writing by artists, curators and researchers. Its activity was distributed. From the web page the artworks travelled to inhabit other spaces and formats, from the gallery exhibition to the radio broadcast to the book. This is because or-bits.com wanted to encourage different ways of presenting and experiencing artistic content that was native to the web. -
