Between May 2019 and June 2021 I worked as a support worker for Mencap supporting people with learning disabilities. Working as a support worker means helping people with their every day life in a least restrictive way. Duties include:• Promoted wellbeing and self-reliance, providing boundaries and direction.• Provided support in social, physical and emotional areas to assist clients with integration into local community.• Tracked client behaviors, daily activities, new skills and notable incidents for documentation purposes.• Monitored the health of individuals with learning disabilities, continuously updating and adjusting care plans to meet health and wellbeing needs.• Continuously promoted best practices in health, safety and security to safeguard the welfare and health of individuals with learning disabilities.• Reported on progress to primary care staff, addressing concerns and suggesting appropriate action.• Assisted with personal care activities, such as independent living and household activities, consistently promoting independence.• Provided physical and emotional support, employing effective communication and an empathetic approach to help individuals achieve their full potential.• Improved service-user experiences through effective communication and efficient, accurate issue resolution

Towards the end of my degree, I started undertaking an internship for a research team who works in the field of mental health prevention for children and adolescents. During this time, I was able to get an insight of what work goes into big research projects and the publication of those projects. My duties included:• Getting to know the scientific work and research of various research projects• Perform literature research• Participate in questionnaire development • Scientific writing of various aspects within different research projects• Data collection and analysis• Independently producing a scientific article for an international journal from data overviews and text fragments
