I always seek opportunities to help others reach their goals and advance in their academic, professional, and personal lives. When I connect with others, I’m interested in what I can do for them, and uninterested in what they can do for me. My desire to help others is what drew me to the fields of Sociology, Social Work, Higher Education, and now Management. Since earning Master's Degrees in Social Work and Higher Education, I held a number of roles that allowed me to create value for organizations and individuals. I attribute much of my success to my resourcefulness and creative problem solving ability. My superior problem solving skills are used to conduct the necessary research that designs a plan for achieving long-term, complex organizational goals. Broadly, my research agenda spans three strands: 1) racial power dynamics in organizations (i.e. stratification, competence signaling, conflict negotiation); 2) organizational socialization (i.e. recruitment, hiring, training, retention, and promotion); and 3) organizational justice (i.e. informational, procedural, distributive, interpersonal). Overall, my work thrives through an interdisciplinary context, which sits at the crux between sociology, organizational studies, Black intellectual thought, history, and the knowledge production enterprise. Although I’ve learned and accomplished a lot in my career, there’s so much more I need to know. This is why I pursued a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership at the University of Texas at Austin. Long-term, I see myself as a full-tenured professor at a leading research university. At this level, I aspire to mentor the next generation of scholars, while using my research, teaching, and service to equip organizational scholars and managers with the knowledge and tools necessary to structurally position diversity, equity, and inclusion as institutional imperatives. In the meantime, I look forward to connecting with and learning from likeminded professionals.
