Keywords in my career are scientific and technical skills, organisation and trouble-shooting. I enjoy participating in research projects either independently or as part of a team. I have mastered a large variety of different technical lab techniques, ranging from protein biochemistry to genome-wide analyses, including data analysis and bioinformatics. I started my research career studying RNA, from isolating and characterizing yeast mitochondrial RNA polymerase to RNA selfsplicing of group I introns in the group of Henk Tabak in Amsterdam. After characterizing the transition in yeast from glucose to fatty acid metabolism on RNA expression levels by SAGE and microarrays, I transferred to the group of Frank Holstege, contributing to various research projects and coordinating the Utrecht DNA microarray facility where I was involved in all aspects: optimizing protocols, automation of sample processing, data analysis, managing user projects on all levels including intake and experimental design, education and setting up workshops, as well as carrying out data-analysis, providing feedback on results and helping users to publish their results.I consider it my strength not to be too specialized but being flexible and enthousiastic enough to easily switch gears between different techniques and projects.
