Marian Liebowitz builds bridges between performers, venues and resources to create powerful experiences for community enrichment. She is an internationally acclaimed musician, professor, consultant, and executive director who as a clarinetist appeared on stages the world over. Winner of the U.S. State Department/Kennedy Center 1997 Artistic Ambassador Competition, Marian’s interest in Latinx ensembles was initially sparked during twelve years of touring and consulting under these auspices.Originally a self-represented musician, Marian has served as a booking agent for other artists since 1992. During a 35-year tenure at San Diego State University, her passion for supporting other artists led her to create some of the first music entrepreneurship courses at a U.S. university. After retiring as a clarinetist, Marian founded her own professional booking agency featuring a curated roster of Los Angeles and San Diego-based world music, jazz and classical crossover ensembles, later adding folklorico dance. A pioneer in the instruction of community outreach techniques for performers, Marian favors ensembles who offer engaging outreach shows in addition to the formal concert experience. This philosophy creates increased impact for audiences and presenting organizations nationwide.During the pandemic, Marian has developed “Safe Yet Together” protocols, so that she can continue to help venues to meet their mission via a multitude of virtual, drive-in, and in-person programs.Marian is a past recipient of the California State University Bautzer Faculty Award for excellence in fundraising, a skill she now uses to advise her organizational clients. She is also a successful grant writer, having secured funds from such notable organizations as the National Endowment for the Arts, the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Trust, the California Arts Council and SouthArts.
