About Marian Winters

I am a senior at the University of South Carolina Honors College pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health with a Minor in Law and Society. I am passionate about advancing nutrition security and improving food and nutrition policies and programs. I previously served as a nutrition security intern with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the mentorship of Dr. Sheila Fleischhacker. In this role, I contributed to USDA’s Actions on Food and Nutrition Security and helped make MyPlate a household name. I gained a deeper understanding of USDA federal nutrition assistance programs and the importance of using a health equity lens to tackle food and nutrition insecurity.Currently, I am a research assistant in the Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior Department at the Arnold School of Public Health under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Frongillo. I have an interest in food insecurity and global nutrition research. I am also exploring graduate school programs as I complete my senior year at the University of South Carolina.Let's connect!
