I am a Senior at Southern Methodist University majoring in Accounting. I plan to pursue my Masters of Science in Accounting after I graduate, and plan to be CPA eligible in the summer of 2017. I have previously worked at Femwell Group Health and Straat Investments where I was able to gain an understanding of different accounts in a company. As a corporate accounting intern at Femwell, I worked in the accounts payable sector for the company’s physician clients. I received invoices from the physician’s offices and imported them using Quickbooks. I was responsible for sending the information back to the manager at each physician’s office to verify the purchases, and then handle any incongruities myself. Once all payments were authorized, I would cut checks, send them to the CEO and answer questions about specific payments, and mail them out. Alongside with accounts payable, I was to review and close the accounting books for each physician’s office for the end of the month. This task included reconciling certain accounts and making adjustments at the end of the month. I plan to intern in tax accounting and hope to work in public accounting firm after graduation.
