Marianna de Cola is currently an Associate at Kohn Partnership Architects in Toronto. She completed her Masters of Architecture at the University of Waterloo. Her thesis research and design was set in Newfoundland and involved the study of mutable landscapes, shifting populations, fluctuating resources, and possible versatile infrastructural solutions. Marianna’s work has been published in ‘Azure On-line’ in 2012, ‘ArchDaily’ in 2012, and Marketwire in 2012. She has exhibited her work at Regional Migrating Landscapes Exhibition held at Dalhousie, Halifax, in January 2012, the National Migrating Landscapes exhibition held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg, in March 2012, and the Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy from August to November 2012.The University of Waterloo has selected her graduate work to be a Canadian Architect Nominee 2012. She has presented her work at the ACSA Fall conference in 2011 in Montreal and her research and photography has been published in ‘Bracket II: Goes Soft’ in 2011, ‘On-Site Magazine’ in 2010, and ‘Ground: Landscape Architect Quarterly’: a publication by the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects in 2010, She has also been involved in the production of work for the Next North exhibition by the Prix de Rome winning firm, Infranet Lab / Lateral Office in 2011.Marianna has assisted in teaching the 2nd and 3rd year Design Studios with Lola Sheppard and Andrew Levitt and has acted as design critic at the University of Waterloo.Preceding her graduate work Marianna has spent time working and learning in New York, London, and Rome. Her internship in New York with Shigeru Ban + Dean Maltz Architects involved the construction of Ban’s Paper Log House for an exhibition titled SAFE: Design Takes on Risk featured at the MoMA.Marianna’s current research interests involve the study of mutable landscapes, populations, and resources, and possible versatile infrastructural solutions.
