I love a challenge. I have never been the kind of person that can work on repeat. I enjoy not knowing exactly what might be in store each day, and being required to react and adapt to changes as they occur. I thrive thinking on my feet and identifying solutions to a myriad of issues, ideally before they even take place. To do this I develop innovative and engaged teams, keen to embrace new ideas, highlight concerns and ultimately achieve. The greatest compliment I received professionally was following the successful creation of a brilliant team, in a new area of business and a team member said that as a leader I had, “Done everything I said I would do, told them when I wouldn’t or couldn’t do something and why, challenged them when they needed it, but always supported them”. Building lasting relationships and obtaining engagement from sometimes unexpected areas, is my strength. Policing is a high-risk and high-pressured environment, requiring a variety of skills to enable an effective response to protect and safeguard the public. Obtaining support from others, be that external technology suppliers or facilitators, local authorities, partner agencies, private industries, religious establishments, voluntary groups or internal departments, is essential. I have created and developed long-lasting relationships within all these areas, developing a recognised reputation for achieving and resolving blockages. In a career like policing complacency is not an option and the constant need to learn and develop my skills across vast and diverse areas has helped to enhance my holistic understanding of organisations. I really enjoy building new solutions with stakeholders, learning what drives and motivates others, and determining how we can achieve success together.
