People, animals and our shared environment matter to me - I like big questions, enjoy science fiction/philosophy literature and media, and take pleasure in good company - human and non- alike, food & drink, singing (with Ready Singer One, the UK's nerdiest choir), gaming, quizzes and hiking.I completed my PhD in cancer biology in 2012, with first-author papers published in Nature Protocols and PLOS One. My research included pinpointing new blood vessel growth-blocking (anti-angiogenic) genes on human chromosome 21 in a mouse model of Down's Syndrome, and investigating how a cell surface protein called Claudin-14 might affect tumour blood vessel growth via small blood vessel walls (endothelial cells).
