During my UK studies I trained in biochemistry & genetics and then cancer pathology. As a science communicator I've since been privileged to share colleagues' successes through a variety of media. Contact me if you are looking for a voiceover artist for your science video/animation!If I could highlight one skill, it's that I've "learned to learn" - I'll get to grips with most things, fast, which has enabled me to change direction and adapt in new and developing roles.I hope to see barriers faced by marginalised groups in STEM—and everywhere—broken down, which prompted me to work with Athena SWAN in a former role and participating in staff EDI networks.I value critical thinking skills, it's vital we can tackle misinformation and make sure we all have access to tools that can help us navigate and assess information to make the best-informed choices possible. People, animals and our shared environment matter to me - I like big questions, enjoy science fiction/philosophy literature and media, and take pleasure in good company - human and non- alike, food & drink, singing (with Ready Singer One, the UK's nerdiest choir), gaming, quizzes and hiking.I completed my PhD in cancer biology in 2012, with first-author papers published in Nature Protocols and PLOS One. My research included pinpointing new blood vessel growth-blocking (anti-angiogenic) genes on human chromosome 21 in a mouse model of Down's Syndrome, and investigating how a cell surface protein called Claudin-14 might affect tumour blood vessel growth via small blood vessel walls (endothelial cells).
