As an assistant professor (UD) at the Erasmus University I'm devoting my time to teaching psychology students and conducting research. One of my research goals is to unravel the mysteries behind EMDR therapy, a well-established and effective treatment for PTSD that has long lacked a clear rationale, using the lab-analogue to EMDR combined with physiological measures like EEG/ERP and SCL, neuropharmacological agents, and self-report. I'm also working on the improvement of EMDR as addiction treatment, for which I was grateful to receive two grants. I'm examining whether reactivation of the addiction-memory network, and the addition of arousal will lead to more effective degradation of extremely well-learned, implicit drug memories. Wonderfully, my research slowly moves towards the investigation of the working mechanisms and effectiveness of mindfulness/meditation (in perfectionism). As a mindfulness facilitator, I'm teaching mindfulness (for perfectionism) for students and workplace mindfulness for EUR employees. **** UPDATESI'm excited and d e e p l y grateful that I have been granted the amazing opportunity to slowly but steadily integrate my deepest passion into my main job. I'm currently embedding mindfulness within the psychology curriculum:-Together with the L&I team, I developed an elective course on mindfulness for future therapists (see projects); first run in 2021 with great success (great evaluations, and even more important many students reporting sign. increases in insight and wellbeing). -I received a CLI Fellowship to further develop this course, and (scientifically) evaluate it. -Together with L&I, I'm developing a 10-week Minor on mindfulness, to which all EUR students can enroll (planned 2023).Keep you posted!
