Serve as a Board member, providing legal, ethical, and executive oversight

The Executive Director (ED) is the Chief Executive Officer of Vecinos and reports to the Board of Directors. I am responsible for achievement of the organization’s mission, maintaining knowledge of the field, managing core programs and business operations. The ED provides leadership in alignment with Vecinos’ values, always with consideration of the best interest of the people served. Since 2017, I have ushered growth of Vecinos from under $51,000 to $5.6Million in net assets; expanded staff from 4 to 17 full-time employees and 13 part-time employees; grown clinical patients from 400 to over 1,000; expanded lines of service to include behavioral health, licensed pharmacies, diagnostic labs, comprehensive health education, chronic disease management, and more; fostered community partnerships across the region; and secured multi-year foundation and state and federal government grants and contracts.Since 2021, I have worked to purchase, develop, and establish the Community Health Hub in Franklin, NC, which will co-locate non-profit medical, dental, and social service agencies in a culturally centered and bilingual space. The Hub will launch in spring 2025.

I worked with students from all backgrounds in leadership development, building self-efficacy, and transitioning through a new phase of their lives.I did this through my work with orientation, as the advisor to the Hispanic Student Association and to a National Honor Society for Transfer Students, and through program planning opportunities for students as they transition into and through the university.•Supervise seven student employees year-round and large student leader team during summer orientations.•Develop and implement departmental training and professional development opportunities for student employees•Member of two-person team to hire and train 18 student leaders to lead seven sessions of student and parent orientation, orienting over 1,500 parents and 2,000 new students in summer sessions alone.•Member of two-person team to plan and execute Family Weekend, involving record numbers of over 350 families•Serve as advisor to Hispanic Student Association, facilitating the cross-cultural collaboration between different multicultural student organizations and intentional inclusion of non-multicultural students•Manage four budgets, totaling over $180,000

Adapt coursework for and engage students in MGT 423 "Public Management and Leadership" for nine Asheville Fire Department battalion and division chiefs in the Asheville Fire Department Chief Officer Academy program.

Design and implement a beginning-level Spanish-language class for 20-25 community members•Sensitive to cultural and social norms and limitations, design a comprehensive beginning-level Spanish-language curriculum for adult community members.•Tailor lessons to the needs of the class members based on their experiences, purposes, and motivations for learning Spanish.

Tailor in-home English language and American culture lessons to migrant farmworker youth.•Create and conduct individualized in-home English lesson plans for camps of migrant farmworker youth•Member of three-person team to create comprehensive yearly training program for 10 other English teachers•Coordinate health, sexual disease, and alcohol/drug rehabilitation interventions for youth when necessary

I worked closely with a 22-person team of AmeriCorps members in leadership development, effective program planning, and administrative/grant assistance.•Create and facilitate comprehensive yearly training for 22-member HealthCorps team•Train recruiting team of HealthCorps members and lead recruiting and hiring efforts for new team annually; Promote program nationally and locally •Create, plan, and coordinate yearly, bi-annual, and weekly team training and service events, including the MLK Day of Service, collecting food from 10 Seattle-area stores and collecting over 50,000 items for the South Park Food Bank

I developed engagement opportunities for cross-cultural interaction between the Hispanic community and the dominant community through regular workshops and programming.•Create and implement a Language Exchange Program to facilitate cross-cultural language and tradition sharing; promote the program through publications, flyers, community outreach, and partner organizations•Coordinate volunteers for all Hispanic-related programs•Create and implement weekly cultural month events, forging new organizational relationships with 35 community organizations and volunteers.•Create the first Phinney Immigration Forum, including five major Seattle-based immigration advocates and over 150 participants
