Visualize is an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting midwives to screen for cervical cancer through thoughtful educational techniques. We have developed a low-fidelity cervical cancer screening training model that aids midwives or other healthcare providers as they learn how to screen for cervical cancer using visual inspection of the cervix with acetic acid (VIA). VIA is a low-cost and effective cervical cancer screening method.Our training module aims to empower midwives to perform and teach others to perform VIA, a proven screening method that is affordable and accessible for women. By detecting pre-cancerous cells early, these women can get the treatment they need in time to save their lives.

• Co-developed research protocol and data collection devices to investigate urban pregnant patients’ exposure to trauma and how these patient wish to be screened and supported by their obstetricians• Evaluated with target users a novel gestational diabetes management app through developing protocols and facilitating focus groups• Performed recruitment, enrollment, and interviews with obstetric patients before transcribing and analyzing to determine key themes and findings• Used qualitative analysis software to triangulate themes from 60 interview transcripts from study aimed at evaluating a texting intervention for urban women with gestational diabetes• Piloted and executed interactive workshops for undergraduate scholars on design thinking, professional development skills, and global health

•Mentored student teams through the design and development of low-cost medical technologies focusing specifically on devices for use in low-resource settings•Researched and perform context assessments of global health needs to inform projects•Curated, executed, and maintain multiple academic and co-curricular opportunities for students to engage in global health design at the undergraduate and graduate levels

• Researched the awareness of HIV vaccines and biomedical preventions among transgender individuals through focus groups and key informant interviews in order to identify best practices in creating recruitment and educational materials for engagement in research• Recruited participants through targeted outreach and pre-screen participants for enrollment• Performed individual educational visits on HIV/AIDS and preventative HIV vaccine research to ensure informed participant enrollment

• Performed a retrospective review and analysis of treatment outcomes in respiratory infections with multidrug resistant gram negative bacteria• Completed an extensive literature review on multidrug resistant gram negative bacteria to inform variables used in analysis of combination versus monotherapy

• Conducted eight weeks of clinical observations in maternal and infant health in 10 different healthcare centers throughout Ghana to develop over 80 unique need statements and identify user requirements and engineering specifications for chosen need • Designed, prototyped, and evaluated a simulator device to train midwives in Ghana to screen for cervical cancer using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA)• Established sustainable relationships to gain and utilize feedback throughout design development from over 80 stakeholders in the Ghanaian and US healthcare systems • Constructed and implemented two user-center design workshops for students in Ghana
