At the time, I was accountable for the web business of TigerDirect.com, an Internet Retailer magazine top-25 largest online business (based on revenues) and as it happened, we had just replatformed our mobile web site and were close to launching a brand new tablet optimized version. This was a busy period for TigerDirect -- but we were also considering an implementation of V.me, Visa's emerging digital wallet technology, which we felt good about but which would compete for the same limited technology resources as many other valid projects in the months and weeks before our critical 4Q holiday selling season. Maria did not know at the time -- nor was she even directly involved in our day-to-day relationship with Visa -- TigerDirect was close to deciding that a V.me implementation ahead of the critical 4Q holiday season would need to be postponed until 2014. Somehow, within a few minutes of meeting me, Maria had an entire picture painted that accurately captured the challenges, and over the next day of the event, she became a relentless advocate for convincing me that whatever other strategic decision that we might pursue, we would be borderline insane were we to go into the holiday online retail season without V.me implemented, on desktop and mobile platforms. She even chased me down at hotel checkout, and ensured that we shared a cab to the airport -- another opportunity to push Visa's position about V.me, and the kind of impact it could have on TigerDirect's online prospects for Black Friday, Cyber Week, and the holiday selling season. She even suggested shortcuts we might take to minimizing the impacts on our development resources. And in the weeks to come ... it worked. We did in fact implement V.me by Visa, having it fully ready to go with about 7 days to spare before the heart of the shopping season, and it was used by tens of thousands of our customers to complete their seasonal shopping at TigerDirect.com and at m.tigerdirect.com. These are sales that might have otherwise gone to a rival competitor, were it not for the convenience, additional security, and other promotional elements made possible only by V.me by Visa. Maria became a huge "X-factor" in making this all happen. She was in the right place, at the right time, using her business instincts and deep knowledge about Visa's products and the marketplace -- to save the business opportunity and making it possible for it to win for all parties. In hindsight, its a small story in the scheme of things, but it paid big dividends for TigerDirect, for our customers and shareholders. Maria Tatone stepped into a situation and was a business partner and Visa ambassador to a merchant that wasn't even her client. I was very impressed and the results spoke for themselves. With this in mind, I'm very pleased to provide this unsolicited testimonial."
