Despite not being mentioned, I have years of working in food and beverage departments at many different establishments, from cafes, pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, and ice-cream shops.The most recent and perhaps the most challenging one was a pub in Killarney with the best Guinness review, where a diversity of ages and nationalities meet to drink the proper Irish Guinness. The biggest challenge was to conquer the hearts of the local folk who were the regular users of the pub. Once I overcame that challenge, they treated me like one of their own. This was important to achieve as tourists looking for a proper Irish experience would be looking for this familiarity of the locals. It wasn’t that the job itself was difficult, technically was too easy for me due to my previous experiences, but to create a good rapport with the regulars at the pub- people that have known each other since birth, and their parents before them did too, and so on- was crucial to maintain the pub’s essence.

The Brethon Hotel is where I first worked in the reservations department and on the Switch Board. However, due to the location of the workplace and transport issues, I ended mycontract with them, but that did not stop me from working diligently during the short time I worked there.

Portugal

I worked as a receptionist for two seasons in a four-star hotel with a high demand for service from regular guests as well as new ones. The hotel’s popularity, my experience in workingunder pressure, and my familiarisation with the hotel’s standards, layout and demands led me to become a supervisor during my second season at the hotel. Our main job concerned listening to our guests, being problem solvers, and quick thinkers. Being a supervisor, however, meant that in addition to caring for the guests, I had to look after my team. I worked in the hotel’s entertainment department for the guests, contributing to developing leisure activities, recreation, workshops, and other entertainment-related activities such as dancing. Bringing unique experiences for the well-being and happiness of our guests, thus, elevating the guests' levels of satisfaction. Working as an entertainer in a hotel of this staturerequires a certain finesse, as we must be able to adapt to each customer’s expectations without over-imposing ourselves.
