Led the development and operation of an integrated pest management (IPM) program for 1,200 acres of ornamental plants to lessen the economic impact of plant diseases, insects, and other abnormalities while maintaining plant quality. Implementation of an IPM program reduced overall pesticide use by 30%, resulting in a 22% cost savings over two years.

Conducted research on the ecology and epidemiology of aphanomyces root rot on alfalfa. Special focus on the quantification of disease severity of Aphanomyces euteiches on alfalfa. Performed tasks including the creation of laboratory protocol, experimentation, root washing and scoring, and pollination, and maintained culture collections through frequent transfers.

Assisted in biofuel and fodder research of grass varieties to enhance the value for dairy production, profitability, and sustainability by performing field work including grass sampling and maintenance as well as laboratory work including DNA isolation, extraction, and analysis. Special projects included assisting in the improvement of plant biomass through independent travel to research plots at the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center and primer design for detection of endophytes in grasses.
