As a final chapter of my study in manufacturing technology, my thesis was conducted in collaboration with Siemens Gamesa in Aalborg. Here, I collaborated closely with the process engineers on automizing and optimizing a key process of offshore blade production.Analysing and modeling the production processes allowed for creating a digital process model to be optimized. Understanding and codifying the implicit decision making of the engineers allowed for conveying the knowledge of the engineers into mathematical logic. Therefore, a program for automatically performing the previously manual operations and optimizing the resources of said operations was created.

The internship aimed at addressing gaps in understanding the production processes and equipment at Oliveira de Frades. The project was prompted by challenges with a specific machine, but the lack of comprehensive documentation made troubleshooting challenging. To overcome this, reverse engineering was conducted to extract information of the design and functionality of both hardware and software.The outcome of the project was a deeper understanding of the specific machine and its process. Standard operating procedure, a manual detailing the components, and a manual outlining the main software program, the I/Os, and the communication methods utilized.The contributions of the internship signifies improved operational efficiency, knowledge management, and possible future development of the machine and process.
