The United States Department of Agriculture is the federal executive department responsible for developing and executing federal laws related to farming, forestry, rural economic development, and food.I was involved in the Microbial Pathogen Survival Study (MPSS) which was funded by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The aim of this study was to analyze the survival of pathogens in soil andmanure-amended soil. Collected data was used to determine if agricultural regulations on the use of manure to amend soil needed to be altered to decrease the risk of food-borne illnesses.
