We created a submerged turbulent jet fixture to answer this question and provide additional data to be used in developing a more accurate hemolysis model. The application of the experimental Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system in the new Fluid Discovery Lab to the turbulent fixture will help to:1) quantitatively measure the turbulent statistics in the volumetric regions, 2) significantly expedite the systematic understanding of the turbulent effects on blood damage, and 3) to validate the numerical hemolysis model results. Please note that the Particle Image Velocimetry system is a combination of high-speed camera, laser, software, and a synchronizer to track the particles in the fluid.
