Because it’s my calling.In my mid-twenties, I landed a job as a service representative for a temporary employment agency. For the next three years, I spent my days interviewing people, setting them up on jobs, speaking with employers, visiting businesses, and, without realizing it, developing a passion for career counseling. It was during this time that I “wrote” my first lesson: “The Three A’s of Applying for a Job.”Supporting my as-yet-to-be-recognized career path was my membership in Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) organization. For several years, I facilitated a course offered through BPW entitled Individual Development Program (IDP), which provided participants with education and practice in topics such as networking, negotiation, job interviewing, public speaking, parliamentary procedure (how to run a meeting), and other career development topics.Then I became a school counselor in 1999. I spent my first two years working with middle school students. I used my interest in career counseling to deliver a four-lesson career unit to students in grades 7 and 8, along with facilitating job shadow experiences for these students. Following this, I spent thirteen years working in a career and technical center with high school students who are already pursuing career interests. Nirvana! I was in my element! Then, I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a position as Career Outreach Counselor in a regular high school, where I had the good fortune to be able to develop and deliver a semester-long career planning course to students for eight semesters. Wow. Doing what I love. Can it get any better?Yes it can! In 2018, I decided I wanted to do more of what I love. I wanted to spend the next chapter of my career story focusing full-time on helping others realize their career goals.My past career experiences have converged into a passion: career counseling! I enjoy providing seminars and workshops on career-related subjects, and career coaching one-on-one with people. I help students and adults move forward in their lives by helping them clarify what they really want to be and do, and providing them with resources on how to get there.
