Early intervention

Skilled Nursing Facility:• Developed and implemented treatment plans for adult patients ages 55-98 years old with varying diagnoses (e.g., CVA, heart disease, CKD, AKI, ESRD, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, cancer, dysphagia, orthopedic conditions/surgeries, etc.) while collaborating with OTRs, COTAs, PTs, PTAs, nurses, CNAs, administrative staff, and patients’ families to provide the best care for our patients.• Conducted evaluations for newly admitted and readmitted patients to get a baseline of their current level of function and get an understanding of their prior level of function and living environment through chart review and interview.• Completed documentation utilizing NetHealth as well as participated in patient/caregiver training and patient care plan meetings with patients’ families and the interdisciplinary team.

Pediatric Outpatient Clinic:• Developed and implemented client-centered intervention plans for clients ages 2-8 years old with varying diagnoses/referrals for occupational therapy services (i.e., autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, developmental delays, fine/gross/oral motor issues, feeding difficulties, etc.) and modified treatments accordingly to facilitate the ‘just-right challenge’. Collaborated with OTRs, COTAs, SLPs, SLPAs, ABA therapists, and administrative staff to provide the best care for our clients and their families.• Assisted in evaluations by administering and scoring assessments (i.e., BOT-2, DAYC-2, PDMS-2, Sensory Profile, parent/caregiver interview, etc.). Assisted with discharge planning for early intervention clients (0-3 years old) who have aged out of early intervention services and older clients who have successfully met all of their established goals.• Advocated for the profession by providing parent/caregiver education and facilitating discussions with other healthcare and service providers regarding occupational therapy’s unique role and value.

Hand Private Practice:• Set up and cleaned equipment, tables, chairs, and mats used for therapy sessions• Called patients in and assisted them with paraffin baths and providing hot packs• Learned about evaluation and documentation in the hands setting while observing and assisting OTRs/COTAs with anything they needed during therapy sessions

Pediatric Community:• Learned about horses and how to properly care for them as well as therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, and equine therapy and how they can be used as an avenue to improve the quality of life of individuals with disabilities.• Worked with children and adults who were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, neuroblastoma, and opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome.• Assisted the therapy instructors and clients during therapeutic riding and therapeutic activities by grooming the horses, setting up the arena, hand walking the therapy horses, sidewalking with the client, and providing support whenever and wherever needed.

Virtual psychosocial fieldwork rotation that mainly utilized online simulations, lectures, group discussions, and activities.
