This drove my roadmap that began in computer programming and daylighting simulations, through to energy management and green buildings, and finally to community projects and climate change awareness webinars. My ambitions are to continue to drive forward all aspects of sustainable living through my professional endeavors and day-to-day life. I started my career with daylighting simulations in buildings and was amazed by the amount of energy savings possible with a good daylighting design. At that time, I was using my computer science education to develop software tools for daylighting calculations and analysis. As my experience with daylighting increased, I have noticed that energy conservation possibilities fascinated me more than code development itself. I wanted to learn what ‘green buildings’ really mean and how to quantify the quality of spaces for occupants, environment and economy. My next step was learning about energy management in buildings. It was fascinating for me how much energy we can conserve with proper operation and maintenance of our buildings, and how many of these opportunities are low cost and achievable for the majority of buildings. In the past few years, through volunteer work, I have become actively involved with the human side of sustainability. I have managed to spread my passion to other people and developed and led a few successful community projects related to recycling habits and active transportation. Through these projects, I have learned the basics of project management: how to build a team, communicate with various stakeholders, plan and implement actions, make people excited about the results, and inspire them to move forward. While I constantly try to learn more about all aspects of sustainable living, through various courses and webinars, I also enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion with others. Working on En-ROADS climate workshops gave me the opportunity to show other people that we still have time to slow climate change and mitigate its effects.
