Our modus operandi has always been to 'connect people, policy and practice'. As a coordinating body, we brought people with grassroots, health, civil society en academic expertise together, to jointly analyse, plan, advocate and lobby for rural health equity. Our methods included research, training, organising and coalitionwork, and of course lobby. As Director I helped the Steering Committee to transition into a Board. I developed the governance manual and led the development of two 5-year strategic frameworks. In the words of one of our donors the Atlantic Philanthrophies (2016): “RHAP provides an innovative, highly effective and cost-efficient way of creating a powerful voice for driving the pro-rural health improvements agenda in South Africa. Its team is small but highly skilled. Its partnership approach enables RHAP to deliver results efficiently and eliminates the need for RHAP to grow into a sizeable and costly organisation. RHAP enables a network of small, diverse and disparate organisations to work together to achieve far more than any could on their own.” And “One of the successes of RHAP has been the high-quality pioneer leadership by the Executive Director who employs a collaborative style, balancing and managing contrasting views and approaches to health, rurality and advocacy.” Show less -
