Marilee Rist is an experienced association management, marketing, and publishing executive. She started her career at the National School Boards Association as a writer and editor for the organization's flagship monthly magazine, American School Board Journal, receiving numerous journalism awards and prizes for her firsthand observations of school leaders and trenchant analysis of trends and issues in public education.Ms. Rist moved to the business side of the publishing operation as Advertising Director in 1993. Through coherent and innovative promotional, marketing and sponsorship programs, she assisted the ad sales force in raising ad revenues 17 percent for American School Board Journal and 89 percent for The Executive Educator in one year. In 1994 she was named NSBA's Marketing Director, where her accomplishments included achieving new cost efficiencies for marketing of NSBA's Annual Conference through strategic use of the organization's customer database. She was instrumental in moving the marketing perspective from a tangential position to the strategic core of the organization.As Assistant Executive Director for Marketing and National Affiliate Programs, she oversaw the organization's exhibits program, market research efforts, and substantial direct mail marketing activities. Recently promoted to Associate Executive Director for communications, constituency services, marketing, and publications, she oversees a wide range of NSBA's entrepreneurial programs.
