Brand ManagerOuch Mar 2010 - Jun 2015Bloemfontein Area, South AfricaAs a brand manager, I learned to have a clear understanding of the company's brand and what Ouch! stands for. The values, mission, and vision of the company should be visible at all times. I worked closely with the owner and stakeholders to get a deep understanding of what they believe the story of the brand should be. It was my responsibility to ensure that our customers connect with the brand on an emotional level where they became brand ambassadors in the market and could tell the story of Ouch! to other prospective customers. I learned to focus on the goal and on how to get the best results possible. This taught me perseverance and to go beyond what was expected of me... The challenging part of this position was to maintain the company brand standard throughout the company. Many employees were still very 'old school' and found it difficult to understand that a company's "personality" was presented through the brand. Thus, a lot of training on a regular basis was done to ensure that people understood the importance of the brand and the message that accompanies the company's brand. My duties included:* Maintaining the company's brand by setting up the style guide which included: brand guidelines, brand vision and mission, and the brand values. * Managing and executing all forms of communications. * Managing and execution of online media and social media marketing and planning of new product launches. * Development and implementation of PR strategies. * Setting up a budget for online media marketing and conducting a competitor analysis in the field. * Maintaining a good understanding of our customer's needs. I enjoyed the market research a lot. This taught me to think outside the box, ask the questions nobody wanted to ask.The only part that I found difficult, was to discipline employees who failed to reach their targets or who did not adhere to company rules. My empathy for people forced me to set strong boundaries, especially when in a leadership position.Although my natural tendencies are to protect people, it is important to adhere to company rules and when an employee overstep boundaries or not meet their set expectations, it was my responsibility to address those issues. My duties included: * Working with large profile customers and assisting sales members during the sales process. * Setting new targets for the sales team and achieving growth on a monthly basis. * Conducting market research on different industries and/or cities. * Keeping the sales team motivated and trained in different sales approaches and initiatives. * Scouting and recruiting of suitable sales candidates. * Traveling nationally and training salespeople in different cities. * Having monthly sales and stats meetings with the CEO to give feedback on sales teams progress on achieving set targets. Sales ConsultantRecord Control Instruments Mar 2004 - Dec 2005Bloemfontein Area, South AfricaI love people and working with them and spending time with them. The product we sold was not a "sexy" product, as my manager always said, so it was crucial to focus on the customer and to build a strong relationship with them. I enjoyed this so much. I was Sales Person of the year for 3 years in a row and won the annual prize for best sales achieved company-wide. I enjoyed traveling around South Africa and exploring new cities and markets. We did not have set areas and could work where ever we wanted to. This enabled me to establish what type or people I enjoyed working with and then I simply worked in those areas. People differ in every city and that motivated me to plan my trips in such a way that I knew exactly what type of people I wanted to see and booked my appointments accordingly. I learned so much of myself during this time and I enjoyed every moment of it. I was one of the youngest salespeople at the time and this was challenging in that the more senior staff used to be condescending towards me, but this gave me the determination to work even harder. My duties included: * Sourcing of new clients on a daily basis* Making sales calls and doing cold calling* Maintaining positive relationships with existing clients to ensure future sales* Achieve sales targets and maintain continual growth* Grow through feedback from sales manager * Keep abreast market trends * Keep up to date with what customers want and need* Do relevant administration for feedback to my sales manager Show less

This club had a revolutionary vision to bring health and fitness into people's lives in a new and innovative way. As a sales consultant, I had to find new members to join the fitness club. This was an eye-opener for me. Although selling 'gym memberships' was not that difficult, it was difficult to realize how many people had a low self-esteem of themselves. This was the first time I heard women talking about themselves in such a derogatory way, hating themselves, and only joining in the hope of feeling better about themselves. This, I would say, was the most difficult part of the job. I found myself so many times feeling sad for the individual in front of me, wanting to tell them that a gym contract will not fill the void. But I was young, inexperienced and had not found my 'voice' yet.My duties included:* Making sales calls and doing cold calling* Maintaining positive relationships with existing clients to ensure future sales and references for new sales* Achieving sales targets and maintaining continual growth* Grow through feedback from sales manager * Giving prospective members a tour of the facilities and booking appointments for free training sessions* Taking phone calls * Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude at all times Show less

I learned so much about myself, my own capabilities, my weaknesses, and my limitations. I had to work long hours, and sometimes I had to work the night shift. I enjoyed my stay in London so much. I met amazing people from all over the world and dealt with very sick people on a daily basis. I witnessed patients walk in with their relatives and watched their relatives leave, without them. I have experienced the heartache and how people deal with loss in different ways. The Heart Hospital served as a big stepping stone in me becoming an adult, I will forever cherish the time I spent there and the opportunity to work there among a group of diverse and unique people. The worst part of my job was leaving. I have happy memories of my time there and made lifelong friends. My duties included:* Answering calls and directing to correct departments* Greeting visitors and logging all visits and parcels arriving* Scheduling of appointments and keeping the diary of some of the doctors* Testing of fire alarm and cardiac arrest alarms on a daily basis* Keeping reception area tidy at all times* Register of new patients and doing all administrative duties relating to new patients* Keeping patient information confidential at all times Show less
