Dean, Apprenticeships And Skilled Trades TrainingWashtenaw Community College Jun 2014 - Oct 2019As Dean of Apprenticeships and Skilled Trades Training, I get to represent the great programs and services provided by Washtenaw Community College (WCC) to local businesses who are interested in providing apprenticeship training for their employees. I help business partners define the skillsets they need and work with them to create apprenticeship training plans. I also manage one of the largest educational - building trade union partnerships in the country. WCC and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) have been working together for more than 30 years to ensure the men and women of the UA receive the highest quality instruction available. My newest passion is finding new directions for Registered Apprenticeship and collaborating with others to bring the benefit of apprenticeship to non-traditional industries. Responsible for the administration of the United Association (UA) program including, but not limited to, curriculum, academic standards, accreditation, faculty evaluation, course assessment and program review; collaboration and planning with UA Administrators; and the coordination of on-campus programming and activities with the UA Director of Training’s office.Oversight of apprenticeship programming including, but not limited to: evaluating and determining the appropriateness of training materials; working closely with state and federal agencies to maintain required certifications and records; collaborating with appropriate credit departments to ensure that the requirements of each apprenticeship program is met by appropriate WCC classes; and developing a network of community contacts and organizations to ensure that apprenticeship programs and processes serve area businesses. Plans and maintains an apprenticeship enrollment plan, including ongoing outcomes and evaluation components. -
Dean, Advanced Technologies And Public Service CareersWashtenaw Community College Feb 2012 - Jun 2014Ann Arbor, MichiganManaged the College’s Advanced Technology division, with 46 full-time, and over a 100 part-time and adjunct faculty, as well as owning full responsibility for the college’s largest workforce contract. Planned and coordinated a combined annual budget of over $13 million. This included all academic accounts and union trade accounts. • Worked with faculty to develop three new programs, including five certificates and one degree. Procured $12 million in grant funded equipment for the programs. • Led the division on the strategic planning committee. Reviewed ongoing inefficiencies within the institution. Researched and implemented updates, collaborating with faculty and administrative staff. Reduced annual expenditures by $250 million. • Ensured mandated accreditation. Streamlined efficiency and negotiated faculty contracts effectively. Reduced department overages by one third, saving the institution over $300 thousand annually. Automated multiple procedures, eliminating for paper products, unnecessary waste management and additional labor hours. Researched trends in employment and focused curriculum and professional development toward a specific demographic. Partnered with Quicken Loans and Compuware to create asoftware boot camp non-coders initiative. Bolstered the industry, fostering growth in the economy. -
