Marilyn Jackson is the President & CEO of the American Alliance of Museums, the 10th person to hold this position in AAM’s history. A passionate museum enthusiast, she has visited museums worldwide and dedicated nearly 20 years to working in museums and nonprofits.Before joining AAM in April 2024, Marilyn was President & CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center, where she mobilized Muhammad Ali’s legacy to inspire changemakers and advance social justice. Prior to the Ali Center, Marilyn was the Chief Engagement Officer for the United Way of Metro Chicago. Under her leadership, United Way launched marketing and public programs connecting donors and stakeholders to its neighborhood development strategy.Marilyn also served as Vice President of Marketing and Audience Strategy for the Chicago Architecture Center. She began her museum career in 2004 as the Director of Marketing at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, where she led award-winning marketing campaigns that set national attendance records.With over 25 years of marketing and strategic planning experience, Marilyn has held management roles at Six Flags Theme Parks and Ameritech Corporation. She earned her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and her BS from Cornell University. Originally from Jamaica and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Marilyn now lives in Chicago with her husband and three children.

Instituted a marketing ROI culture by establishing an annual research program and developing and implementing ROI metrics. United all marketing functions (communications, advertising, group sales, research, membership, and digital communications including social media) into a cohesive strategy supporting CAF’s programs and fundraising. - Grew tour attendance 120% in 5 years by developing and implementing omni-channel marketing strategy using print, OOH, broadcast, and digital (SEM, SEO, social media). Established marketing partnerships with media outlets, travel, and tourism organizations for added-value. - Managed the development of a new media strategy including a digital master plan and creation of a Webby Award recognized website (architecture.org), which repositioned the organization as an international leader in architecture and design education. Created an in-house digital team that maintained the website, developed digital applications and content, and gained CAF the number 1 position for critical SEO keywords.- Developed the organization’s first multi-year membership strategy which drove a 100% increase in membership and a 50% increase in net revenue, creating a $1MM unrestricted revenue center. This served as the foundation of the annual fund and major gift resource development programs.
